What is an unclaimed benefit?
Every staff member of a participating employer is entitled to receive pension benefits at the time when he/she leaves employment and ceases to be a member of GIPF. These benefits are guaranteed and therefore, paid out to members once a benefit claim is received by GIPF with all relevant supporting documents attached. At times however, members and HR officers do not complete the relevant claim form by the time a member leaves service. Consequently, these benefits remain with GIPF as unclaimed benefits.
Calling former members to claim their benefits
The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) appeals to all former members who have left employment due to retirement, resignation, ill-health, disability, or retrenchment, but who have not claimed or received their pension benefits from GIPF, to contact the HR Offices of their former employers in order to lodge a claim.
List of unclaimed benefits
Please check whether your name appears on the list of unclaimed benefits below to find out whether you are the one we are looking for. The list can be searched using your name or former employer e.g. Ministry of Education. If you are a family member or member of the public and have identified someone on the list, please advise them to contact their previous employer or the nearest GIPF office.
Who can claim unclaimed benefits?
If you are one of the former members that we are looking for, please visit your former employer at the HR Office to complete the relevant claim form. Remember to take along a certified copy of your National Identification Document (ID) and your last pay slip if available. Family members or beneficiaries of a deceased GIPF former member who fall in the above categories are also requested to contact the HR offices where the members were employed. GIPF can only pay benefits once a benefit claim has been received and signed off by the employers.
